  • What is Ghee?
    Ghee originated in India as a form of clarified butter. This superfood is painstakingly made over a slow flame so as to remove all of butter's impurities. What's left is a pure substance that can be used in various cuisines, Ayurvedic medicines, and rituals.
  • How is Ghee Made?
    Ghee is made by simmering butter on a low flame until the milk solids separate and water evaporates from the butter oil. This remaining golden butter oil is filtered once more to create Ghee.
  • What is Ghee used for?
    Ghee is an extremely versatile superfood. Cooking- As Ghee has a natural high smoke point, it won't burn like other cooking oils and therefore makes for the perfect fat for sautéing, searing, or toasting. Ghee also has natural nutty and caramel like flavors, which enhances the smell and taste of various foods. It is also significatly healthier than other fats! Health- Dabs of Ghee can be used in order to heal burns, wounds, and rashes. Consumption also helps with lowering inflammation in the body and bosltering the digestive system.
  • What does Ghee Taste like?
    Ghee has various textures depending on how its made. At Nature & Nurture our Ghee's are made in a traditional Indian method which yields an overall smooth texture wiht nutty notes. Melting this Ghee at home before consumption will remove any grainyness, and refrigirating it will add it back.
  • Can Ghee be used to bake?
    Absolutely! Ghee is used religiously in Indian culture to create a variety of desserts. When using Ghee as a substitue for butter size down the amount of Ghee used by 25%. When using Ghee as a substitue for another oil you can use the same amount of Ghee.
  • Is Ghee considered dairy?
    Yes, Ghee is considered as dairy as it comes from butter and milk. However, you will find that Ghee is much easier to digest as the Caesin (Milk proteins) and Lactose (Milk Sugars) are removed during the Clarification process. Ghee is a great alternative to butter for those who are lactose-intolerant or sensitive to dairy. If you have a much more severe dairy allergy, however, please consult a medical professional before consuming.
  • How should Ghee be stored and what is the Shelf life?
    We reccomend you refrigirate your Ghee after opening as it will last significantly longer. However, there is no issue if you unrefrigereate either. Just ensure you are using a clean utensils everytime you use the product. The Shelf life, once opened, is 1 year if refrigerated or 3 months if unrefrigerated.
